Agyei Brace Sealed Alex Defeat For Under-23s

|

A Daniel Agyei brace helped Burnley Under-23s to a home victory against the Alex this afternoon at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium this afternoon.

Manager Alex Morris made 1 change from last Monday afternoon’s 1-0 victory over Birmingham City as Michael Raynes came in for Matthew Fenton at the back so Will Jaaskelainen started in goal with a back 4 from right to left of Travis Johnson, Michael Raynes, Billy Sass-Davies and Luke Offord. In front of them were Connor Heath, Josh Lundstram, Harry Pickering (making his first appearance in a Crewe shirt since the first team game against Macclesfield Town exactly a month ago – he’s had a hamstring injury) and Joe Lynch whilst Malachi Linton and Lewis Reilly started up front.

The opening goal of the game came on 24 minutes when Agyei headed home a cross from left-back Anthony Glennon before he’d double the lead 4 minutes later. The Alex got back into the game on 32 minutes as a Pickering free-kick was headed into his own net whilst we leveled 5 minutes later with Reilly scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down with the winner coming just before the hour-mark as Johnson’s defensive clearance hitting Tinashe Chakwana and going into Jaaskelainen’s goal.

The next game for the Alex at this level sees a trip to Sheffield Wednesday a week on Friday (12th) with a 1:00 pm kick-off at their training ground.
