What’s In A Squad Number? – Number 30

Here are those players that have worn the number 30 shirt in competitive games since squad numbers were brought into the Football League in the 1999/2000 season.

Colin Cramb (Jul 99 – Jun 01)

Scottish striker Cramb joined the club in the summer of 1999 from Bristol City for £250,000, making 58 appearances for the club before joining Dutch club Fortuna Sittard in the summer of 2001. He has also played for Bury, Shrewsbury Town, Grimsby Town, Hamilton Academical, Stenhousemuir, Stirling Albion and East Stirlingshire before retiring in the summer of 2009, briefly coming out of retirement to play for Brislington in 2015.

Lee Bell (Jul 01 – Jun 02)

We looked at Bell’s career in the number 7 column, he wore this number in his first season with the first-team squad.

Danny Milosevic (Feb 03)

Australian goalkeeper Milosevic joined the club on loan from Leeds United, making a single appearance for the club as he got injured on his debut. He would go on to play for Celtic, New Zealand Knights, Inglewood United and Perth Glory before retiring from playing in 2007. He would become a goalkeeping coach, firstly for the Australian Women’s team and has been at Perth since June 2014.

Kyle Wilson (Jul 03 – Jun 04)

We looked at Wilson’s career in the number 27 column, he wore this number in his first season with the first-team squad.

Ryan Austin (Jul 04 – Jun 05)

Defender Austin would come through the Academy without making a first-team appearance for the Alex in his only season as a professional. He would be loaned out to Burton Albion during that season, signing him permanently in the summer of 2005 and would also play for Kidderminster Harriers and Brackley Town before joining Kidsgrove Athletic as player/manager in August 2016.

Nicky Maynard (Jul 05 – Jun 06)

We looked at Maynard’s career in the number 9 column, he wore this number in his first season with the first-team squad.

Adam Dugdale (Jul 06 – Jun 07)

We looked at Dugdale’s career in the number 6 column, he wore this number in the first season of his first spell with the club.

Lee Barnard (Jul 07 – Jan 08)

Striker Barnard joined the club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, making 10 appearances for the club as injuries reduced his playing time with the club. He would also play for Southend United, Southampton, Bournemouth, Oldham Athletic, Southend United, Stevenage, Crawley Town, Braintree Town and Chelmsford City before joining current club Maldon & Tiptree, initially on loan in March 2018 before making the deal permanent in the summer.

Patrick Boyle (Jan 08 – Apr 08)

Left-back Boyle joined the club on loan from Everton, making 17 appearances for the club in his 3-month spell. He would also play for Dumbarton, Patrick Thistle, Clyde, Dunfermline Athletic, Gateshead, Airdrieonians and Ayr United before joining current club Peterhead in the summer of 2018.

John Brayford (Jul 08 – Jun 09)

Carl Martin (Jul 09 – Jun 10)

We looked at Martin’s career in the number 15 column, he wore this number in his first season with the club.

Oliver Turton (Jul 10 – Jun 11)

Greg Pearson (Jan 12 – Mar 12)

Striker Pearson would be the next player to wear the number after joining on loan from Burton Albion, making 9 appearances for the club before the Brewers recalled him. He would also play for Grimsby Town, Kidderminster Harriers, Nuneaton Town, Hednesford Town, Brackley Town, Bishop’s Stortford, Halesowen Town and Hinckley AFC before retiring in the summer of 2016.

Lauri Dalla Valle (Jul 12 – Jun 13)

We looked at Dalla Valle’s career in the number 12 column, he wore this number during his loan spell with the club.

Uche Ikpeazu (Jan 14 – Jun 14)

Striker Ikpeazu would join the club for 3 separate loan spells over 2014 and 2015 from Watford, making 32 appearances across them. He would also play for Doncaster Rovers, Port Vale, Blackpool and Cambridge United before joining current club Hearts in the summer of 2018.

Alan Tate (Sep 14 – May 15)

Defender Tate joined the club on loan from Swansea City, making 26 appearances for the club, before he joined Port Talbot Town following his release from the Swans. He currently works for Swansea City as a first-team coach following a spell as a youth coach with the club.

Danijel Nizic (Oct 15 – Jan 16)

Goalkeeper Nizic joined the club on loan from Burnley, making a single appearance with the club before being recalled by the Clarets. He would also play for Morecambe and Western Sydney Wanderers before joining current club Sydney United earlier in the year.

Harry Pickering (Jul 16 – Jun 17)

Paul Green (Jul 17 – Jun 18)

We looked at Green’s career in the number 12 column, he wore this number in his loan spell with the club.

Corey Whelan (Aug 18 – Jan 19)

Defender Whelan joined the club on loan from Liverpool, making 18 appearances during his spell with the club. Following his release from Liverpool last summer, he would join Pheonix Rising in the States (also spending time on loan at FC Tucson).

Christian Mbulu (Oct 19 – Jan 20)

Defender Mbulu was the latest player to wear the number, signing for the club on a short-term deal following defensive injuries and made 7 appearances for the club before joining Morecambe in January. He passed away in May.
