What’s In A Squad Number? – Number 35

Here are those players that have worn the number 35 shirt in competitive games since squad numbers were brought into the Football League in the 1999/2000 season.

Alan Maybury (Oct 00 – Nov 00)

Full-back Maybury joined the club on loan from Leeds United, making 6 appearances in his month-long spell with the club. He would also play for Hearts, Leicester City, Aberdeen, Colchester United, St. Johnstone, Hibernian and Falkirk before retiring in the summer of 2015. He would go into coaching (including with his last two clubs as a player/coach) but has been at current club St. Johnstone since June 2018.

Alan Navarro (Mar 01 – May 01)

We looked at Navarro’s career in the number 24 column, he wore this number in the first of his two loan spells with the club.

Gary Montgomery (Jan 02)

Goalkeeper Montgomery joined the club on loan from Coventry City as cover but returned to his parent club after a week with the Alex. He would also play for Kidderminster Harriers, Rotherham United, Grimsby Town and Boston United before retiring from football in 2010. He would also play first-class cricket for Lancashire County Cricket Club in the summer of 2010, playing in 3 of their 40-over games that summer.

Ben Williams (Mar 04 – May 04)

We looked at Williams’ career in the number 1 column, he wore this number in his loan spell with the club.

Colin Murdock (Jan 05 – Jun 05)

Defender Murdock would join the club in early 2005 from Hibernian, making 16 appearances before signing for Rotherham United that summer. He would also play for Shrewsbury Town and Accrington Stanley before retiring in the summer of 2009.

Tom Pope (Jul 05 – Jun 06)

We looked at Pope’s career in the number 15 column, he wore this number in his first season with the club.

Chris Flynn (Jul 06 – Jun 07)

Midfielder Flynn came through the Academy at the Alex, making two appearances in the first-team before joining Stafford Rangers in the summer of 2007. He would also play for Northwich Victoria, Stafford again, Eastwood Town, Nantwich Town before finishing his career with Stafford in 2012.

Joe Anyinsah (Mar 08 – May 08)

Winger Anyinsah joined the club on loan from Preston North End, making 8 appearances for the club. He would also play for Brighton & Hove Albion, Carlisle United, Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, Wrexham and Hayes & Yeading before retiring in the summer of 2014.

Chris Stokes (Mar 10 – Jun 10)

Defender Stokes joined the club on loan from Bolton Wanderers, making 2 appearances in his short spell with the club. He would also play for Forest Green Rovers, Coventry City, Bury and Stevenage before returning to current club FGR in January this year.

Nicky Ajose (Nov 14 – May 15)

Striker Ajose joined the club on loan from Leeds United, making 27 appearances for the club. He would also play for Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic, Bury and Mansfield Town before joining current club Exeter City last summer.

Oliver Finney (Jul 16 – Jun 17)

We looked at Finney’s career in the number 14 column, he wore this number in his first season with the first-team squad.
