Miller Goal Enough In Tight Under-23 Game Against Sky Blues

|

Shaun Miller scored the only goal of the game as Crewe Alexandra’s Under-23 team welcomed his former employers Coventry City to the Alexandra Stadium this afternoon.

Manager Alex Morris named Will Jaaskelainen in goal with a back 3 in front of him of Travis Johnson, George Ray and Billy Sass-Davies. In midfield, Joe Lynch, Regan Griffiths, Tom Lowery (captain) and Owen Dale with Miller and Alex Nicholls either side of Lewis Reilly up front.

In a game with few chances, the Alex took the lead on 32 minutes with good work from Lynch down the right with his left-footed cross turned in from close range at the back post by Miller. The best chance from the visitors saw striker Jordan Ponticelli head wide on the stroke of half-time from a right-wing cross.

The best Alex chance of the second half saw Jaaskelainen’s long ball down the pitch kept alive by Reilly before the striker found Nicholls who shot wide under no pressure from 8 yards out before Jaaskelainen made a great save to deny Charlie Wakefield in the final 10 minutes
