Wintle Joins Perry At Cardiff

|

Cardiff City have announced the signing of midfielder Ryan Wintle on a 3-year deal, becoming their third signing of the summer, after rejecting a new deal with Crewe Alexandra.

Wintle, 24, signed for the Alex in January 2015 from Alsager Town (initially playing in the Under-18s) and would go on to make almost 200 appearances for the club, scoring 11 times.

He joins former Alex captain Perry Ng at the Cardiff City Stadium.

What are Cardiff getting from this signing?

Wintle is a central midfielder who has played as our most defensive of a midfield three and was a key member of the side that got promoted the season before last.

While it took him a while to adapt to League 1 (he wasn’t the only one to initially struggle after the step-up), he would be first-choice in the deepest midfield position, usually partnered by a deep-lying playmaker in midfield as well as a creative number 10 player (Oli Finney when fit) playing closer to the lone striker.
