Michael O’Connor’s agent says the midfielder isn’t actively looking to leave Gresty Road. Could have fooled us.

The Irish midfielder’s future at the club has been in the balance since Gudjon’s appointment six months ago. A public spat and a loan to Lincoln signaled the end for Occy until ‘the agent’ revealed that they have since kissed and made up ready for the new season.

Claims of any making up however were soon shot down by O’Connor himself, very openly telling a Irish newspaper he is hoping to get out of Crewe.

Speaking to The Belfast Telegraph earlier this month he said:

“I have an offer from Lincoln to go back out on loan but maybe the best thing at this stage of my career would be to get a good permanent move away from Crewe.

“That`s why I`m hoping to impress in this international, it could not come at a better time for me.

“That`s what I am concentrating on at the moment. If something happens with a possible move in the next few weeks then great, if not, I`m not going to panic.’

Today it’s a different story. Agent Gerry Carlile says O’Connor is not actively looking to move… but then again, what harm would it do to post an advert in the Sentinel, incase any stray managers happened to pick up a copy.

‘Michael is not actively looking to get away, but there will be a certain level of interest.

‘He is 21 and has played nearly 100 senior games. He’s nearly 6ft 1in and is a box-to-box midfielder. These sort of players aren’t everywhere.

‘A lot of clubs are looking for players with that balance of youth and experience – and Michael has that. There has been interest from a Championship club, although I am not going to name them.’

Hmm.

Both Lincoln and Scunthorpe are chasing his signature now, obviously a move to the latter is more likely. But then it could have been so much better had he not been such an arse.

They say that anyway, because if they do ask for a move they forfeit any part of the transfer fee.
