Histon defender Mat Mitchel-King is fully expected to sign a contract with the Alex this afternoon. He will become Gudjon’s second summer signing, following on from King’s former Histon team mate Patrick Ada.

Arriving on a free following the expiration of his contract, King arrives having captained Histon during their successful Blue Square Premier campaign last season. In his two years with The Stutes at BSP level he made over 80 appearances.

With only a medical pending before he officially signs, Gudjon Thordarson told crewealex.net:

‘Mat is close to signing. I held talks with him earlier this week and after he undergoes his medical later today, then he will become our player.

‘This will be a chance for him and he is a committed lad. He wants to come here and improve and I’m sure that once everything goes through then he will improve our team.’

Meanwhile, the manager of Histon, Steve Fallon, wished his former captain luck in the future, telling cambridge-news.co.uk:

‘Mat has done fantastic for us but we fully understand it’s an opportunity for full-time league football and no one would begrudge anyone that chance.

‘We wish him every success at Crewe, I have no doubt he could well go on again and play even higher.’
