Scunthorpe have made an enquiry about rogue midfielder Michael O’Connor. United manager Nigel Adkins has confirmed that he has asked his chairman to make enquiries about the Northern Irish midfielder.

Occy has been out of favour at Gresty Road since a public spat with Gudjon back in February. It saw him leave on a surprise loan move to Lincoln, where O’Connor dished the dirt on Gudjon, saying he would never play for him again.

Rumours of mud-filled sandwiches and going AWOL from training persisted, whilst O’Connor enjoyed becoming a fans favourite at Sincil Bank. After his loan at Lincoln ended he had a trial at SPL club Hibs, which came to nothing, before his agent claimed the spat between O’Connor and Gudjon was over and Occy was looking forward to the new season.

However, earlier this month O’Connor told the Belfast media that, ideally, he wanted a move away from Gresty Road this summer, with a season-long loan offer from Lincoln still on offer. However, with interest building from Scunthorpe it now looks like O’Connor will get his wish before the season starts.

It’s not likely Gudjon will stand in Occy’s way should Scunthorpe make a firm bid, but at what price? £250,000 has been mentioned but are Scunthorpe likely to come anywhere near that valuation for a player who has so publicly said he wants out?
