Algerian international Madjid Bougherra has completed his £300,000 move to Sheffield Wednesday. The FC Gueugnon defender, who made 11 appearances whilst on loan at Crewe towards the end of last season, has signed a three-year deal with the Owls. There had been other interest in the charismatic defender, but after Sheffield United and Leeds pulled out, and Birmingham delaying over the fee, Sheffield Wednesday pounced to sign their man. The 23-year old turned down an offer from Crewe to stay at Gresty Road, with the offer of Championship football giving the Owls the edge. Crewe fans will certainly hope to see Bougherra go on to fulfil his ambitions, and perhaps one day return to the club where he begun his career in England.
