Steve Holland puts the record straight on our latest signing; it’s Barnard, not Berbatov. Holland wants fans to be patient with the Tottenham Hotspur striker when he makes his Alex debut on Saturday.

The 23 year old is seen as our biggest hope in the search for goals this season, after our current attacking line only has one goal between them.

First team coach Steve Holland says that ‘Barney’ looks impressive in training, but said that fans shouldn’t expect too much too soon.

He told CreweAlex.net: ‘I don’t want to curb that enthusiasm or excitement amongst the fans because Lee is a good player but we have to consider everything. We have signed Barnard not Berbatov and he will need some time to find his feet.

‘His finishing has been excellent in training and hopefully he can take that form into Saturday’s game.’

On Saturday, Barnard will become the 9th Alex player this season to take up a forward spot. Tom Pope, Shaun Miller, Chris Dickson, Nick Farquharson, Mat Bailey, Ryan Lowe and Byron Moore have all already played a part in the search for goals since Nicky Maynard’s injury on the opening day of the season.

Barney is a real good young striker just never going to get a run at spurs with 3 let alone 4 fit internationals on the books but should score goals if the service is adequate.

Continuously banged in the goals while playing for Spurs reserves like they were going out of fashion. Made the odd appearance for the Spurs first team a while back (when most of our regular strike force were injured) and did ok. Providing he gets the service, he’ll score sack loads for Alex.
