Tempting Taylor

Gareth Taylor is attracting interest from a host of clubs, including two Championship clubs. Various League One clubs are interested in the out-of-contract striker, whilst it is believed that Plymouth and newly-promoted Southend are the two Championship clubs interested in the 33-year old, whilst Luton are also reported to be sniffing around in the background, though a deal with the Hatters seems unlikely due to their location, a lack of first team opportunities and doubts over Mike Newell’s future. Despite the impending offers, which may well be more lucrative than the one-year deal which Crewe have offered him, Crewe may hold the advantage as Taylor wants to stay close to nearby Knutsford. Therefore, Taylor’s departure is far from certain, with his PFA agent Phil Sproson indicating that Crewe have as good a chance as anyone of signing Taylor. Sproson said, ‘Gareth is a vastly experienced forward at Championship level, but Crewe have always been in the frame. He really enjoyed his time there and got on with Dario. It’s close to home, but like everybody else he wants to play as high as he can for as long as he can. But the two clubs from the Championship who have shown an interest in him are nowhere near as close as Crewe. He has got a decision to make in the next few weeks.’ Taylor scored 4 times in his 15 appearances whilst on loan at Crewe, though Taylor was released by parent club Nottingham Forest yesterday.
