Pipe Down, We’re Only Bottom of The League

In typical Crewe Alexandra fashion, fans are subtley (or not) told to keep protests against Steve Holland and the board quiet.

Earlier this week club Chairman John Bowler spoke out publicly for the first time in many months, possibly since Steve Holland took the managers seat.

Having already told Crewe ASi that the board are still backing Steve Holland at the start of the week, Bowler spoke to BBC Radio Stoke saying: ‘I don’t think there’s much wrong with the side but we would like to strengthen.

‘I think our problems are more with the squad than the coaching or training.’

He preceded to put his foot firmly in his mouth, blasting those fans protesting against the club at recent games.

‘I can understand people being anxious and disappointed,’ said Bowler.

‘But I do think some of these protesters are doing it for fun as much as anything else.’

Today however, the chairman back tracked claiming he was mis-quoted and says that maybe only ‘one or two’ are actually having fun. However, Bowler was more concerned about the hoards of fans worried for their personal safety.

‘When asked about the fans I was mis-quoted.

‘Maybe one or two are having fun but that doesn’t hide the fact they are concerned, everyone has the right to make their feelings known.

‘What we’ve got to do is make sure those who protest do so in such a way that doesn’t upset other supporters.

‘We have had other fans asking us to do something about the protests that have been going on.’

Ok, John, I think by ‘are you going to do something?’ they meant ‘when will you sack Holland?’.

The comments were followed today by the official site’s rather cheeky warning. Reminded fans of the ground regulations, the article went on to tell fans that fans ‘may only occupy the seat allocated to them by their ticket’. When there will be more than 3 seats to every person in the ground tomorrow, it’s rather laughable.

Protests however will continue at tomorrow’s game at home to Ebbsfleet in the FA Cup 1st Round. As usual, fans will be taking up residence at the top of the main stand whilst banners against the management are also welcome. You can also download the Vital Crewe poster here.
