Pigs Won’t Fly This Summer

Let’s get this straight, Nicky Maynard will not be joining Leeds United.

A bit of wild gossip that popped up on the Vital Crewe Message Board last week seems to have been taken seriously. The said rumour was that Maynard, him of Championship quality, would be joining Leeds United, those of League One, for a fee of £475,000.

For any Crewe fan, or football fan that saw his performances late last season, that is laughed off with immediate effect. Some (not all) of the Leeds contingent though believe that it is a) a believable rumour and b) Nicky would see them as the move of his life.

For £475,000 however, Maynard could probably hand pick a side in the Championship this summer, if not have a couple of Premiership clubs in reserve.

Neil Baker, assistant first team coach, said a couple of months ago that the club would not consider a bid of £1million. We can’t confirm if he felt that fee was over half what the club wanted.

It’s looking more and more likely that Maynard’s next club is willing to give the 21 year old another 5/6 months at Crewe, after all he has in effect only played one season’s worth of games in his career… and scored 34.

His next club will not be Leeds United, they will not be in League One and they will need a lot more than £475,000 for acquire him. Triple it I would say.
