Moore Bemoans ‘Goodison Factor’

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore felt his side lost it the moment his captain left the field injured.

Ian Goodison was taken off midway through the second half after a last ditch tackle on Clayton Donaldson left the centre back clutching his ankle.

What followed left Ronnie Moore less than impressed as two sloppy goals from Tranmere’s point of view saw them throw away the three points. For the Alex it was more of a pay off for the persistent pressure we had taken to Tranmere in the second half.

Moore told tranmererovers.co.uk that he felt if Goodison had remained on the pitch it would have been Tranmere celebrating the win:

‘As soon as something happens to Goodison we become a completely different side. We were panicking and kicking balls anywhere.

‘When you’re 1-0 up against the bottom of the league you keep the ball and we never did that. There was only one change today and they’re the same lads who passed it round against Carlisle and Stockport and played some lovely football.

‘The Goodison factor is ridiculous. If he’d have stayed on we’d have won the game. They had a bit of pace down the middle so we put Shotton there to counteract that, but we didn’t defend in the right areas when we had to.’

There’s always an excuse I suppose.

Shame Moore can’t appreciate Joel Grant’s finishing. 😉

Seriously though, Goodison is a top class player – even at his age. Kept Maynard in his back pocket not so long ago.
