Tomorrow afternoon sees Crewe Alexandra travel to Holker Street to face Barrow for the first time in 50 years – the hosts’ squad containing former Alex players Mark Ellis, George Ray and Billy Waters while Alex striker Courtney Baker-Richardson could also be up against a former employer.

They sit in 8th place in the league after beating Stockport County, Bradford City, Walsall, Harrogate Town, AFC Wimbledon, Doncaster Rovers, Newport County and Grimsby Town, they have drawn against Gillingham while they have lost against Sutton United, Northampton Town, Leyton Orient, Tranmere Rovers, Mansfield Town and Rochdale.

They lost to Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup 2nd Round after knocking out Blackpool in Round 1 (both on penalties) while they finished 2nd in their EFL Trophy group after beating Fleetwood Town (also on pens) and Carlisle United on either side of a defeat against Manchester United’s Under-21s.

Transfers:

This summer has seen the club make 13 signings, 11 permanent and 2 season-long loans. Defenders Ray, Tyrell Warren, Myles Kenlock, Pawel Zuk and loanee Sam McClelland were joined by midfielders Sam Foley, Solomon Nwabuokei, Ben Whitfield and loanee Harrison Neal join them while forwards Richie Bennett, Waters, Benni Smales-Braithwaite and David Moyo complete the signings.

They have allowed 12 players to leave the club permanently, including former Alex striker Offrande Zanzala, while 3 players have left the club on loan deals.
