Arsenal loanee Arthur Okonkwo saved a penalty for the second successive game for Crewe Alexandra in their draw at AFC Wimbledon last night. Ayoub Assal opened the scoring for the hosts late in the first half before Rio Adebisi scored his first senior goal in the second half for the visitors.
Manager Alex Morris named an unchanged team from Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Doncaster Rovers with the bench also unchanged from that game.
The visitors had the opening chance of the game in the 6th minute as Adebisi had an effort blocked before captain Harry Pell would have an effort saved by Okonkwo for the hosts just before half-time. They would take the lead in stoppage time with Assal converting from a corner.
The Alex drew level on 62 minutes as a cross from Tariq Uwakwe was headed back by Kelvin Mellor for Adebisi to head home before the hosts won a penalty with 16 minutes to play, Zac Williams fouling Chislett, with Okonkwo saving Josh Davison’s spot kick.
The next games for the Alex travel to Barrow on Saturday before hosting Leeds United’s Under-21s in the final EFL Trophy group game next Tuesday.
What can we take out of this game?
A point on the road is usually a good result but this feels like a chance to have got more than that against a team that were similar to us in terms of quality. Another decent penalty save from Arthur but we need to avoid having to rely on the youngster to bail us out too often.
