In Search Of Fon

The club will be looking to get in touch with rookie keeper Owain Fon Williams this week after having no word on his future plans.

The 21 year old’s contract expired this week and whilst he looks certain to leave Gresty Road, with the likes of Bolton, Blackburn and Swansea said to be interested, no news about the Welsh keeper has come about.

In his five years at Crewe he has never played a first team game, despite links to the Premiership. He revealed earlier this summer that this is part of the reason for him leaving, as well as revealing that he can’t trust the club having been offered the number shirt following the departure of fellow keeper Ben Williams.

The number one spot has now been taken by the more experienced Steve Collis and with Adam Legzdins in as back up, with Stuart Tomlinson still 4 months away from fitness, it seems there is no going back for Fon.

However, there still remains the issue of compensation wherever he goes. Being under-24 and from the club’s academy, it’s thought that Crewe could claim as much as £100,000 in compensation for Williams but for that to happen the club need news on his plans.

Steve Holland told superalex.co.uk that he hasn’t heard from Williams all summer, despite phone calls being made and letters being sent: ”I’ve not heard or seen from Owain all summer,

”He didn’t attend training last week, so it will be a case of Dario and John Bowler sitting down in the next couple of days and deciding how to handle it.’
