The build up begins tomorrow night as 1,500 miles away the Alex play their first football of the summer.

The team will take on FC Maritsa on Tuesday evening in preparation for the League One season that gets under way in one month’s time. Holland is set to name two teams to play Maritsa, with each playing 45 minutes. However, both Calvin Zola and Gary Roberts have chosen to remain at home.

The game is part of an agreement with FC Maritsa’s owner who invited the Alex on an expenses paid trip to Bulgaria. Rangel Berberov is said to be a Crewe fan and just wanted to his his other side – Maritsa – take on the Alex, who will be the first English side to play in Bulgaria since Bolton three years ago.

Out there till the end of the week, the squad are currently bein put through their paces by the management, as Steve Holland explained to crewealex.net:

”We are doing a run at 7.30am, some free weights in the gym in the afternoon and then use the pitch in the evening for a bit of ball work. Between then the players have a few hours to themselves, which they are also enjoying. So it’s going well at the moment, so far so good, we’re really pleased.”
