I’m not embarrassed by my team today

Things go from bad to worse, but Steve Holland remains Crewe Alexandra manager… for now.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Leyton Orient saw us rock bottom and six points from safety tonight. Holland’s position as manager (or first team coach?) is under serious strain but there are no obvious sign that the directors backing is about to chance.

Holland doesn’t look as though he’s about to jump ship neither. Speaking to crewealex.net after the game, it was more of the same. Poor excuses and self pity:

‘I didn’t think there was too much in for the first hour or so and there was not a lot happening in both penalty areas in the first half. I thought both defences looked relatively sound in the first half.

‘The heads began to drop a little after it went to 2-0 but we rallied towards the end and had chances from Joel and Shaun to perhaps had salvaged something from the game. Joel lifted one over the bar and Shaun has headed it straight at the keeper.

‘I’m not embarrassed by my team today, but I am embarrassed by our results and our league position. I thought the supporters were excellent today. There was nothing before the goal and they got behind the team. They voiced their opinion when we went a goal behind and then at the end, because we are all desperately disappointed.’
