Plymouth Argyle’s Simon Walton has turned down a loan move to Gresty Road.

The 21 year old was set to become Steve Holland’s second signing of the week before a call late on Friday night saw Walton turn down the offer.

Walton, whose fiance gave birth last week, became Plymouth’s record transfer signing for a fee of around £750,000 in the summer. However, having struggled to settle into the Argyle side he has been told to prove himself by manager Paul Sturrock.

The former Leeds midfielder would have proved a much needed boost to a Alex side that has failed to win in 10 league game and now sits 6 points from safety.

Steve Holland says the deal is dead but the search for new players continues:

‘Plymouth were happy for him to come but Simon decided against it so we will turn out attentions to other alternatives.

‘We will improve wherever we can, but it is finding the players that are good enough to make the difference, which is not easy.’

The question remains though; who wants to join a sinking ship?

He would have been an excellent signing. I don’t think he got a fair crack of the whip at QPR. Oh well!
