Goalkeeping Signature Agreed

An unnamed young goalkeeper has verbally agreed to join the club after talks with the Crewe management.

The keeper is thought to be former Derby stopper Ben Hinchcliffe.

Assistant Manager Neil Baker told The Sentinel: ‘The young keeper has intimated he is going to sign for us.’

Baker added: ‘We think he will be a good signing and he is good enough to compete for the number one jersey. The deal is not done yet, but we have had a telephone conversation with him.’

Two other goalkeeping names and potential signings that have been circulating in the rumour mills of late are two former Birmingham goalkeepers Richard Kingson and Adam Legzdins.

Kingson is the more experienced of the two, he is 29, a full Ghana International and has had no less than 10 clubs in his career, the majority in Turkey’s top flight.

Legzdins on the other hand in only 21 but has had had numerous loan spells away from St Andrews at Oldham and Macclesfield to name but two clubs.

In a surprise turn around, contract rebel Owain Fon Williams could yet sign and steal the number one jersey as he is yet to play his hand after stalling on signing a new contract at Gresty Road.

With Crewe in the midst of a goalkeeping crisis, having only one keeper signed up for next season, the long term absentee Stuart Tomlinson, it remains to be seen who will start pre season in goals for Crewe, which is now only weeks away.
