Crewe Alexandra will again be without the services of leading scorer Mathias Pogba for the weekend visit of Coventry City but there is better news elsewhere.

“Toots and Michael played in mid-week for the development squad and didn’t suffer any reaction” – Steve Davis

The 22-year-old suffered a recent knee injury at Brentford and then missed the subsequent midweek trip to West Ham United in the Capital One Cup. He is now expected to be sidelined for around a fortnight.

But in more positive news Matt Tootle (groin) and Michael West (heel) are both back in contention for places on the bench against the Sky Blues.

“Toots and Michael played in mid-week for the development squad and didn’t suffer any reaction so they are back in consideration for the squad,” manager Steve Davis confirmed to Crewe’s official website. “I will consider them for the bench at this stage because they have not played for a while.”

Defender Mark Ellis has also recovered after suffering a nasty cut above his eye following a collision with Hammers keeper Stephen Henderson in midweek.

Coventry are now under the caretaker leadership of Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley following the recent sacking of Andy Thorn.

They could decide to stick with an unchanged starting line-up after guiding their side to a 3-2 win against Birmingham City in the Capital One Cup earlier this week.

Summer signing William Edjenguele and youngster Jordan Willis were introduced as the hosts made two changes for the game and both may continue in defence.

Otherwise, John Fleck (hamstring), Conor Thomas (ankle), David Bell (hip), Jordan Clarke (knock) and Nathan Cameron (knee) are all currently unavailable.
