Goals from Abdul Djalo, Callum Ainley and Rio Adebisi gave Crewe Alexandra’s Under-23 team defeat Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon in the Under-23 Professional Development League at Reaseheath despite conceding in the opening minute.

Manager Alex Morris named Dave Richards in goal with a back 4 of Under-18 right-back Djalo, Travis Johnson, Luke Offord and Adebisi. In front of them were midfielders Regan Griffiths, Josh Lundstram, Paul Green and Ainley while Ollie Finney played in behind Connor Heath. The substitutes were goalkeeper Sam Booth, Lewis Reilly, Aaron Lomas, Nathan Woodthorpe and Tyreece Onyeka.

The opening goal came in the opening minute for the visitors with left-back Joe West scoring from the edge of the area after a corner was cleared to him while the equaliser came late in the opening period with Djalo planting one in from the edge of the area.

Crewe went ahead 9 minutes after the break as Griffiths’ right-wing cross was headed in by Ainley while the third was added with 4 minutes to play as Ainley’s free-kick was turned in by Adebisi at the back post.

The next couple of games sees a trip to Leeds United next Monday afternoon before hosting Watford on Wednesday 8th at the Alexandra Stadium.
