Demetriou Becomes Fifth Signing Of The Summer

Crewe Alexandra have announced that left-footed defender Mickey Demetriou has signed an initial 12-month deal with the club with the option of a second year, becoming the club’s fifth signing of the summer.

Demetriou, 33, started his career with Worthing in 2006 before spending time with Bognor Regis Town, Jerez Industrial, Eastbourne Borough and Kidderminster Harriers before starting on his Football League journey in 2014. After two and a half seasons with Shrewsbury Town (including a 6-month spell on loan at Cambridge United), he joined Newport County in January 2017 where he made almost 300 appearances in all competitions, including having a spell as their captain.

It is the second straight summer that the Alex have signed a free agent from Newport following the arrival of Courtney Baker-Richardson last year. Lower league football expert Ed Walker, who has done our opposition view when playing Burton Albion in the past, had this to say about our new signing:
