Crewe Alex boss Dario Gradi has spoken to the official website regarding his new job as Football Technical Director.

It now appears that Steve Holland is undergoing a transition to eventually take over full control of the clubs first team interests, with Gradi being the classic ‘Director of Football’ which never seem to last particularly long. It also seems that someone else has come in for Holland, who has taken a greater role in first-team interests of late.

Looking around the web, it appears many a Crewe fan seem to be celebrating in part this move, growing opinion suggests that for Crewe to move forward there needed to be a change. Dario however is looking forward to his new job, and the future of the club. He told the official website:

‘We felt we had to do something because Steve had a very good opportunity to go elsewhere in the summer. In fact, Neil was also offered a position in the summer and we felt it would be difficult to replace them both if they were to leave. I would like to think that I would be difficult to replace as well.’

Rather than stepping aside straight away (as originally suggested on this site…sorry!) the transition he believes is the best way forward:

‘I didn’t want to be a 75-year manager and working seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. That is not healthy for the future of the club.

He went on to add: ‘This is better way to do things. To introduce this gradual transition because it will take some of the work load off me. I’m actually very excited about the situation. I think it will be good for the club and Steve deserves this opportunity.’
