D-Day

Finally this horrible horrible season comes to an end tomorrow. Broken legs, relegation worries and thoughts about who the manager is can be forgotten about… for a couple of weeks.

This season has been the worst experienced by the Railwaymen in well over a decade and can still get worse, however unlikely it may seem. Wins for Bournemouth (at Carlisle) and Cheltenham (against Doncaster) will mean a deafeat for us equals relegation. That is the only scenario that will see Crewe Alexandra relegated.

There are plenty of other scenarios that will see one of Gillingham, Bournemouth and Cheltenham stay up also but one thing we have to concentrate on tomorrow is getting at least one point, the one point that will secure League One safety beyond any doubt.

Really, we should be the least nervous of the bunch tomorrow afternoon, and so far I’ve felt no nerves. It really doesn’t look like both Bournemouth and Cheltenham can defeat their opposition, both Carlisle and Doncaster are fighting for the 2nd automatic promotion spot. However, a couple of early goals tomorrow afternoon could change everything.

One much talked about subject is ticket prices. The club have failed to act on loud calls from fans to drop the prices in order to get more fans in. Hopefully some can find it within themselves to ignore the club’s complete idiocy and get down to cheer the team on.

The team may have been poor and most of them don’t really deserve the time of day after some performances but this is Crewe Alexandra and not about any one player.

John Sheridan Says:

We know it will be a tough game because Crewe always have their way of playing, but we want to beat them and finish the season on a high,’ Sheridan said.

‘Crewe are one of the best sides in the division. On their day, they are a very good team. We know they have been struggling this season, but they play football the right way and they will take the game to us.

Crewe Alexandra Team News:

Julien Baudet remains a doubt despite returning to training on Friday. The Frenchman could still face his former club pending Steve Holland’s decision.

Danny Woodards looked likely to return to the squad after spending most of April sidelined with a groin injury.

Neil Cox could feature at some point to sign off his 18 year playing career.

Michael O’Connor and Ben Rix are both confirmed out.

Player to watch: Nicky Maynard

Quite likely to be Nicky’s last game in a Crewe shirt, let’s hope he signs off with a bang.

Oldham Athletic Team News:

Michael Pearson, Lee Hughes (both groin) and John Thompson (knee) are Oldham’s only injuries. Craig Davis returns and midfielder Chris Taylor managed to recover from a knock in time.

Player to watch: Chris Taylor

Highly rated Taylor has been linked with big moves away in recent months.
