Plymouth Argyle’s Simon Walton is thought to be back on the wish list at Crewe.

The former QPR midfielder turned down the Alex in the days before Steve Holland was sacked. With his fiance giving birth just the week prior, Walton wasn’t keen on a move so far up north.

The Sentinel now report that Gudjon Thordarson will re-ignite the club’s interest in Argyle’s record signing, hoping to sign him before the loan market takes a week break on Monday evening.

Walton signed for Argyle in the summer for a club record £750,000 on a four year deal. Having made just eight appearances for the club Walton was transfer listed just before Christmas with manager Paul Sturrock launching a scathing attack on Walton.

Speaking to the BBC, Sturrock was less than impressed after Walton was sent off against Barnsley for serious foul play.

Sturrock fumed: ‘He’s let down his fellow players as well which is a big disappointment to me.

”Over the last couple of games there’s been near-incidents where he could have got himself sent off and lo and behold he goes away and does it.

”I just cannot believe the boy’s mentality to get back in the team and then show that kind of stupidity. It will cost him dear.’

It’s very difficult to play with 11 men in this league never mind 10,”
