Late Show Grabs Alex 3 Points

Two late goals sealed a much needed win for Crewe as they finally moved off the bottom of League One.Gudjon Thordasson began with the same side that lost at Peterborough in midweek with the exception on John Ruddy, who came in for Stuart Tomlinson in goal after signing on a month loan from Everton.

In truth, Crewe should never have been behind as they dominated the opening 25 minutes, having the majority of possesion and truly outplaying Tranmere.

Crewe thought they had taken the lead, however they were undone by the highlight of another poor refereeing display. Tom Pope played Clayton Donaldson in and after the ball bounced over him and the Tranmere goalkeeper Donaldson was just left to tap the ball into the back of the net. However, much to the amazment of the whole ground,Donaldson was ajudjed to have handled the ball over the goalkeeper. To make matters worse he received a booking in wich was a dubious decision to say the least.

Rovers however managed to sneak ahead on 25 minutes when Anthony Kay drilled home a low shot in of the post. It was a cruel blow to the Alex and loan keeper John Ruddy, who didn’t have another shot to deal with through the remainder of the game.

At half time Gudjon Thordasson brought winger Joel Grant for youngster Danny Shelly, who failed to make a impact in the first half. Grant however made a true impact and was the alex’s main outlet for a attack. Crewe were now on top and only the experienced defending of Ian Goodison kept the alex at bay.

The main turning point came in the 70th minute when Colin Daniel went in on Goodison who was stretchered off. In truth it was Daniel’s best contribution to the game, after missing a couple of chances to get the reds level.

Crewe however were level in the 83rd minute when Mark Carrington swept home from a Joel grant cross. It was deserved for Carrington who put in a man of the match performance.

Grant and Crewe weren’t finished yet however and Crewe took all 3 points with only 2 minutes remaining. Grant found half a yard and got his shot away wich via a huge deflection looped over rovers keeper Danny Coyne. Gresty Road erupted as thanks to other results, the Railwaymen moved of the bottom of the league.

After 4 very long minutes of injury time, in wich Dennis Lawrence had to hold back John Brayford, after Ian Moore apperared so swing an arm at him off the ball, Crewe fans went home happy and looking forward to another basement battle on Tuesday night, when Yeovil travel to gresty road.
