In this column, we look at how Crewe Alexandra have done on this day in the previous 20 years, as well as a couple of results from the end of seasons that started in the 20th century.

2017 – Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Crewe:

The only game that took place in the last 20 years saw a trip to Home Park to face Plymouth. James Jones gave the Alex the lead in the 6th minute and it looked like we’d get something out of the game before 2 goals in a 5-minute spell in the second-half from Ryan Taylor and Nathan Blissett giving the hosts all 3 points. Former Alex midfielders David Fox and Antoni Sarcevic would both play the full game for the hosts.

Alex: Garratt; Turton, Ng, Bingham, Bakayago; Jones, Wintle, Cooke; Ainley (Bowery 67), Dagnall, Cooper (Lowery 78)

Going back further in time, the Alex would win at Shrewsbury Town’s Gay Meadow in 1995 by the score of 2-1 while we would lose 3-1 at home to Bolton Wanderers 5 years later.
