Crewe Alexandra On This Day – April 28th

In this column, we look at how Crewe Alexandra have done on this day in the previous 20 years.

2001 – Crewe 1-3 Preston North End:

The first game of this round-up came 19 years ago with Preston making the journey to the Alexandra Stadium. Early goals from David Healy and Jon Macken would see the visitors 2 goals ahead inside the opening 13 minutes before Rob Hulse would halve the deficit on 19 minutes and Macken adding his second just before half-time.

2007 – Crewe 1-1 Tranmere Rovers:

The next game saw Tranmere travel to South Cheshire. Danny Harrison would give the visitors the lead 4 minutes after half-time before Shaun Miller equalised in stoppage-time. Former (and future) Alex defender Chris McCready would play the whole game with future forward Calvin Zola playing the first 59 minutes, both for the visitors.

2012 – Torquay United 1-1 Crewe:

The penultimate game saw a long trip to Plainmoor to face Torquay. Danny Stevens would give the hosts a 53rd-minute lead before Nick Powell would level the scores in stoppage-time. Future Alex defender Mark Ellis would play the whole game for the hosts.

2018 – Crawley Town 1-2 Crewe:

The final game of the column took place 2 years ago with a trip to Crawley’s Broadfield Stadium. Perry Ng gave the visitors the lead in the 5th minute with Jimmy Smith levelling 4 minutes later before Harry Pickering scored the winner 6 minutes after half-time.
