Crewe captain Neil Cox has requested to leave the club on loan having lost his place in the side. Having signed a two-year deal in the summer, the 36-year old still has 18 months left to run, though it now appears unlikely that he will see out the duration of his deal.
Cox made his debut in the 4-1 away win at Brighton in August. The sweeper system deployed at the time suited Cox, though the recent return to a 4-4-2 system has seen Cox suffer a dip in form.
Dario has gone on record as saying there has been interest in Cox, who was recently linked with the managerial job at Scunthorpe. Macclesfield are believed to be leading the chase, though Torquay and Darlington are also interested. Should Cox leave the club, that would leave just Julien Baudet, the transfer-listed Billy Jones, on loan Danny O’Donnell and the inexperienced Darran Kempson as realistic options at centre-back.

Remember Cox playing at the Villa, not the greatest footballer I have ever see, would he be a big miss for you at 36 years old?
Certainly past his prime now isn’t he.
