Oliver Finney Signs New 12-month Deal With Option Of 2nd Year

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that midfielder Ollie Finney has become the latest player to sign a new contract with the club after signing a 12-month deal that has an option of a second year.

Finney, 21, made his first-team debut in the final game of the 2016/17 season against Barnet as a substitute and was used sparingly until, after a great start of the season for Alex Morris’ Under-23 team which saw him get goals and assists from a wider position, he became a member of the first team squad and made 19 appearances during the season, winning the club’s Breakthrough Player of the Season at the club’s award night a few weeks ago.

What does it mean going forward?

Whilst he’s not been a regular starter for the club at first-team level to date, he’s shown glimpses in his appearances on why he’s rated by the club both in terms of keeping the ball well and getting in positions to either have opportunities at goal or find teammates in better positions.

I think that we’ll see more of him this season from the start of games, both in his preferred central role and as a wider midfielder if Artell wants to change shape as he did at Mansfield back in March.
