Trialist Greg Stones is the surprise inclusion in a 21 man squad which is to visit the exclusive Vale do Lobo resort in the Algarve. They will spend three days this week in Portugal ahead of the opening pre-season fixture against Liverpool on Saturday.
As reported earlier today on Crewe Vital, Midfielders Ben Rix and Michael O`Connor miss out on the trip because of injury but Eugen Bopp is considered fit enough to travel.
The management team had indicated that a couple of youngsters would be included in the squad to gain valuable experience but the club have decided against taking any of the young first year professionals out to Portugal.
The three days away will be an intensive training camp which will include three daily sessions. An early morning jog, a weight session in the afternoon and then a small sized training game will be held in the evening.
The squad in full is:
Goalkeepers
Ben Williams, Stuart Tomlinson, Owain Fon Williams
Defenders
Billy Jones, Julien Baudet, Danny Woodards, Daniel O’Donnell, Chris McCready, Greg Stones, Mat Bailey
Midfielders
David Vaughan, Gary Roberts, Neil Cox, Eugen Bopp, Steven Schumacher, Colin Daniel, Mark Carrington
Forwards
Ryan Lowe, Nicky Maynard, Shaun Miller, Tom Pope
They will then return to the UK on Friday and face pre season fixtures against Liverpool on Saturday and then a double header away at Quorn and Alsager respectively on Wednesday 18th July

if he is a trialist then why is it a surprise? dario won’t find out if he’s any good by leaving him at home. it’s a no brainer.
2 other trialist’s haven’t gone, and it was anticipated that Greg wouldn’t go, plus they are not playing any games out in portugal.
