Here comes another League Two club for Zola…

Northampton Town are thought to be interested in a deal with the Alex to take Zola away from Gresty Road – with a fee being paid in January!

David Gardoza, Northampton chairman, told BBC Northampton of his club’s interest in taking Zola on an initial loan deal before completing a permanent transfer once the January transfer window opens.

Gardoza said of the move:

“We need a striker, we’re working on that. We might have some news on one later this week.

“Zola is one. They want some money for him so I don’t know if this will happen till January anyway. We’d be happy to have him if we can pull it off.”

It’d be up to Zola to agree personal terms with the Cobblers, though having seen him reject Bradford, Burton, Southend and Shrewsbury in the past couple of weeks I wouldn’t hold your breath!

On Saturday Dario revealed that Calvin rejected Shrewsbury’s approach as he was on the look out not only for a permanent move elsewhere but also a wage increase.

This morning Dario admitted that the 25 year old is available for transfer but said the club would require a fee in January if any offers came in.

“He is available for loan. That hasn’t changed. If there are other factors involved, such as Calvin wanting a guarantee of a contract in January or a certain wage is his business. That is down to Calvin and the club.

“He is a decent player and there is a lot of clubs in our division interested in him, but I just feel that he behind a number of our strikers here.”

Zola has been frozen out of the side this season despite finishing with 18 goals last term. The likes of Miller, Donaldson, Leitch-Smith and even 16 year old Nick Powell have all nipped in ahead of the Congolese striker in the pecking order in the last couple of months.

Excited about this! can’t see us signing him if he is after a wage increase after rejecting Shrewsbury. We simply can’t compete on the financial front at the mo! Would be a huge shock if we can pull this off however, to be honest!

We will drive him there! Injury prone and only likes playing when sunny!
