Crewe have received £25,000 as a result of numerous clauses in the Dean Ashton transfer. Crewe secured a 20% sell-on clause stating that Crewe would receive 20% of any profit Norwich made on the clinical striker. Having received £800,000 in January from Ashton’s move to West Ham, Crewe have now received another £25,000 as a result of yet another clause being triggered. Norwich inserted a clause in Ashton’s transfer to West Ham stating that they would receive £125,000 if West Ham ever qualified for European Competition. As West Ham are in the FA Cup Final against Liverpool, who are already in European Competition next season, the prize of UEFA Cup entry for the FA Cup winners passes down to West Ham, regardless of the result in the final. Therefore, Crewe have received 20% of the £125,000 payable to Norwich, which works out at £25,000. Every little helps!
