Crewe have missed out on left back target Aaron Webster after the 29 year old decided to extend his stay at Burton Albion.

Webster had been offered a two year deal at the Alex on Monday but as news came to light about the Alex’s interest, Burton manager Paul Peschisolidio upped his contract offer in an attempt to keep Webster.

It was always unlikely that Webster would make the move if he could get a serious offer from Burton having sent his entire 12 year career at the Pirelli Stadium.

Today, Webster penned a new one year deal with Albion but admitted that a move to Crewe was considered. Speaking to burtonalbionfc.co.uk, Webster said:

‘It has been a really difficult few days for me because Crewe are a big club with a good history for bringing players through and that made me pay some very serious attention to what they were saying.’

Dario will now have to turn his attentions for a left back elsewhere with one of the two trialists at the club most likely to earn a deal. Both Chris Stokes and former Peterborough defender Danny Blanchett are likely to play some part in Friday’s trip to Lancaster with Dario admitting a decision could be imminent.
