David Vaughan is facing a race against time to be fit for the season opener against Brighton on August 11th. He had an hernia operation in the close season and “touch and go” as to whether he will make the team for the opening league fixture.

Vaughan who is in the last year of his contract is desperate to play this season and rediscover his form and fitness. He is unlikely to feature against Derby or Stockport but the management team are confident he will be fit to play against Brighton.

The Welsh midfielder has made 166 appearances for Crewe and scored 18 goals from his attacking midfield position. In the past he has been linked with a move away from the Alexandra Stadium which affected his form.
