A goal in each half saw Sheffield Wednesday defeat Crewe Alexandra in the Under-23s Professional Development League at Reaseheath this afternoon.
Manager Alex Morris named Sam Booth in goal behind a back 5 of Matus Holicek, Connor O’Riordan, Nathan Woodthorpe, Sean Lawton and Max Woodcock. The 3-man midfield comprised of Joe Robbins, Owen Lunt and Joel Tabiner while Charlie Finney played off Tyreece Onyeka up front. On the bench were Zak Kempster-Down, Sam Bhatti, Marquise Martins, Sam Crolla and goalkeeper Tom Booth.
Alex Bonnington would open the scoring for the visitors in the 7th minute, taking advantage of a defensive error, before Booth would save a 12th-minute penalty. Wednesday would double the lead 9 minutes after the break with Korede Adedoyin finishing over Booth before they would miss their second penalty of the afternoon on 67 minutes.
The next games at this level see host Sandbach United in the Cheshire Senior Cup next Tuesday (7:15 pm kick-off) before hosting Sheffield Wednesday the following Wednesday (24th, 1:00 pm) at the Alexandra Stadium.
