Sunderland, Cardiff and Leicester are the latest clubs to have shown an interest in Lincoln City’s Gareth McAuley. The 26-year old was the subject of a £150,000 bid from Crewe in the transfer window, though the move stalled after complications involving his agent, Mel Eves. With the Northern Ireland international out-of-contract this summer, and no compensation payable as he is 26 years of age, the tall defender is proving to be an attractive proposition for numerous clubs. Sunderland and Crewe missed out on the defender two years ago when he departed Coleraine. Sunderland are believed to be leading the chase with assistant manager Ian Evans present at Northern Ireland’s win over Estonia.
