It’s the first of two home games tomorrow and possibly two home games that could define Steve Holland’s reign as manager first team coach.
Or maybe not, maybe, as usual, the club will take the less dramatic stance and just see how things run. Relegation to League Two is no biggy. Is it?
Far from being in the ‘Holland out’ brigade, I do find, for the first time, my patience for the manager of Crewe Alexandra FC wearing thin. His glaring tactical errors, his poor motivational skills and his dreadful mistakes in the transfer market are all prominent at the moment, but I still can’t help but feel he may, just may know what he’s doing.
After all, it’s a 50/50 record so far this season. Four wins and four defeats, it just so happens that four of those defeats came in the League. You look at the league and Southend are directly above us, a team many predicted to win the league a few weeks ago. I wonder if their fans are panicking quite as much? Though they probably aren’t coming off the back of a 5-2 drubbing.
A win tomorrow and we’ll all be happy once again. Beating genuine promotion contenders and shooting ourselves back into mid table – there’d be little to moan about. A defeat and some will be wishing that the Large Hadron Collider really did finish us off the other day (though technically those arguing that it will cause the end of the world meant in years to come, so you’ll have to suffer). A defeat will indeed pile on the pressure for Holland, serious pressure. Will he crumble?

Colchester haven’t played in two weeks having had their game last week postponed due to international duty. It explains why they are currently 16th and may explain why they will probably be physically fitter tomorrow.
Crewe Alexandra Team News:
Michael O’Connor should/could be back having played midweek for Northern Ireland. Occy as missed the previous couple of Alex games after taking a knock to the knee at Hereford last month.
Joel Grant could also be running the wings again. He missed out of the Leeds game with a minor injury but returned to training this week.
Chris McCready and new signing John Brayford are still ruled out.

Colchester United Team News:
Colchester expect Steven Gillespie to return to the line up after missing their last match with a hamstring injury, same goes for Paul Reid. Matt Lockwood has been ruled out.
U’s captain Chris Coyne could be rested having played for Australia in Uzbekistan mid-week.
