The Adam Bogdan Lowdown

Keeper Adam Bogdan signed on loan from Bolton yesterday and with the young Hungarian set for his debut tonight we’ve got the lowdown on him from Vital Bolton.

Some Alex fans are a bit miffed at Gudjon’s decision to sign yet another keeper whilst having young Adam Legzdins fit and ready to play. That’s Gudjon for you, all we can do is support whoever is given the number one shirt this evening.

Bogdan meanwhile doesn’t come with great credentials. At 22 he’s not made any first team appearances at the Reebok, is down the pecking order and has no previous loan spells to speak off.

However, the editor of Vital Bolton Richard McCormick, who’s seen Bogdan in action for Bolton’s reserves, says the potential is there to be a top class keeper.

Here’s the Vital Bolton view:

Crewe fans may be a bit put out at the recruitment of Adam Bogdan, ahead of one of their up and coming players, but that feeling will soon subside, when they see the quality of Bolton`s reserve goalkeeper.

There are two reasons why Bogdan hasn`t been in contention for a first team place at the Reebok. Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ali Al Habsi. Jaaskelainen is one of the best stoppers in the Premier League and Al Habsi is an Omani international who has performed outstandingly when called on. Bogdan has the potential to be better than both of them.

The former Hungarian under-20 international is a fine all rounder. He`s an accomplished shot stopper, assured in one on one situations, good on crosses and commands his area well. Like the best ‘keepers, he has something of a swagger about him.

He arrived at the Reebok two years ago and has recently signed a contract extension. His abilities were apparent immediately and since then, he has had the benefit of working with Fred Barber, one of the best goal keeping coaches in the business.

Now he needs first team football. This move will be good for Adam Bogdan and for Crewe Alexandra.
