Seven-Goal Thriller Sees Sky Blues Edge Out Alex

|

Goals from Lewis Reilly, substitute Joe Robbins and Billy Sass-Davies weren’t quite enough for the Crewe Alexandra’s Under-23 side to get enough against their Coventry City counterparts away from home.

Manager Alex Morris name Sam Booth in goal with a back 4 of Josh Lundstram, Sass-Davies, Luke Offord and Travis Johnson. In front of them were midfielders Connor Heath, James Jones, Regan Griffiths and Ollie Finney whilst Reilly was partnered the on-loan Chuma Anene.

The opening goal of the game came in the 38th minute with Reilly finding the bottom corner before the hosts levelled 4 minutes later with midfielder Charlie Wakefield shooting from the edge of the box.

Forward David Bremang would give City the lead 2 minutes after the break from close range before substitute Robbins levelled for the Alex with just under 20 minutes to play. Max Biamou gave Coventry the lead again 4 minutes later before they added a fourth through left-back Jack Burroughs from 30-yards with Sass-Davies heading home from a corner in stoppage-time.

The next game at this level sees a trip to Colchester United a week on Monday (9th September) before hosting Millwall at the Alexandra Stadium on Wednesday 18th September.
