Recent acquisition Steve Schumacher can`t wait to get started, He joined the club for a nominal fee from relegated Bradford City earlier in the summer. He played over a 100 games for the bantams at the heart of their midfield and he will add height and experience to our current midfield.

The midfielder admits that there is genuine competition for places in the Crewe engine room and that keeps everyone on their toes. He admits that he will have to be at the top of his game and work hard in order to hold down one of two vacant central midfield slots.

Schumacher describes himself as an all round midfielder, equally adapt at playing the holding role or being pushed in to a more advanced role, he is happy to play wherever he is told but he did enjoy getting forward and scoring goals, in his last season for Bradford he managed seven goals from his midfield position.

He is glad to get the opportunity to join Crewe and after speaking with former Alex player Michael Higdon and seeing the facilities at the training ground he had his heart set on joining the club. He is looking forward to the start of pre-season next Monday and will fly out to Portugal with the rest of the squad to work on their fitness ahead of the visit of Premiership Liverpool in the opening pre-season fixture.
