Otsemobor flies the nest

Jon Otsemobor will be officially become a Canary as of the 1st July, the scouser has agreed to join Norwich City on a free transfer when his contract runs out. Jon will join a whole host of former Crewe players in the championship next season.

The 24 year old former Liverpool defender is likely to come against Steve Jones and Stephen Foster (Burnley), Kenny Lunt (Sheffield Wednesday), Rob Hulse (Sheffield United), Jermaine Wright (Southampton) and recent departures Luke Varney (Charlton) and Billy Jones (Preston).

Jon had two spells with Crewe, on loan in 2004/05 season where he scored his one and only goal for the club in a 2-2 draw v Leicester City at the Alexandra Stadium. He was offered a contract by the club but decided to go back to Liverpool and stake his claim for a place in the 1st team squad.

He was released by the Merseyside giants in the summer of 2005 and was linked with a move to the club but Dario decided against it after acquiring the services of Darren Moss from Shrewsbury Town.

After his release from Liverpool he went on to join Rotherham and he struggled to hold down a regular place and Dario gave him a 2nd chance after snapping him up on an 18 month contract in January 2006.

The attacking full back made the right back slot his own and put in some encouraging performances for the club, He was made vice captain of the club and despite running in to hot water after returning late from a family holiday in America before the start of the 2006/07.

He started the season in fantastic form and put in arguably his best performance in a Crewe shirt in the extra time defeat to Manchester United in the Carling Cup. As a result of that performance he was offered an extension to his contract which the player wanted till January 07 to think about.

Dario was not prepared to give him till then to assess his options and promptly withdrew the contract and stripped him of the vice captaincy. As a result of this the player struggled with form and fitness and eventually suffered injury in the 2-1 home victory against Doncaster which was to be his last game in a Crewe shirt.

The player has signed an agreement with the Norfolk club and has already linked up with the club. He told Norwich City`s official website “It`s been a long time. I was connected to the club last season and I`m glad to be here. I feel I have been given the opportunity to come back to Championship with Norwich and I have jumped at the chance.”

Otsemobor, 24, was named in the League One Team of the Year for last season and will be keen to show he is good enough to play in the Championship again. Crewe have replaced him with former Exeter player Danny Woodards.
