Reed Brace Knocks Alex Out Of FA Cup

|

A goal in each half from Louis Reed as well as Ipswich Town loanee Tyreece Simpson’s goal early in the second half saw Swindon Town knock Crewe Alexandra out of the FA Cup at the Alexandra Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Manager David Artell made two changes from Tuesday’s 1-1 home draw against Doncaster Rovers with Donervon Daniels and Madger Gomes come in for Scott Robertson, who drops down to the bench, and the injured Chris Long. Former Alex loanee Harry McKirdy would start for the visitors.

The opening chance of the game came in the 15th minute with Kesler-Hayden heading a corner wide before Reed would open the scoring 10 minutes later with a strike from 25 yards out with Jack Payne would hit the post late on from a tight-angle.

The lead was doubled 7 minutes after the break with Simpson getting in behind the Alex defence to curl past Richards off the pace of the post before the third came 10 minutes from time with Reed’s free-kick from just outside the D going over the wall and past Richards who got nowhere near it.

Our next couple of games see the Alex host Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Under-21s on Tuesday in the EFL Trophy before returning to league action at Bolton Wanderers on Friday night.

What can we take out of this game?
