Goals from Mo Eisa, Matt O’Riley, a Donervon Daniels own goal and substitute Max Watters saw MK Dons defeat the Alex at the Alexandra Stadium yesterday, despite Chris Long’s first goal for the hosts.
Manager David Artell made three changes from last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers with Tom Lowery, Mika Mandron and J’Neil Bennett coming into the team for Billy Sass-Davies, Chris Porter and Scott Kashket, who all dropped down to the bench where they were joined by Manchester City loanee Ben Knight following an injury that has kept him out for 2 months.
The opening chance of the game came in the 11th minute with Rio Adebisi heading a Lowery cross against the post before Mo Eisa would turn in a cross from close-range a minute later from Peter Kioso’s cross.
The Alex would equalise 8 minutes after the break with Long turning in a Callum McFadzean cross from the left before the Dons would take the lead again 11 minutes later with O’Riley curling one into the bottom corner. The visitors would win a penalty a few minutes later with Will Jaaskelainen bringing down Eisa with the Finnish number 1 saving the resulting penalty from the forward before the third goal came with 8 minutes to play, right-wing-back Kioso’s cross-shot turned into the net by Daniels. The fourth came late in stoppage-time with Watters played in behind before firing the balls between the legs of Jaaskelainen.
Our next couple of games see the Alex play at home twice, first Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night before Swindon Town next Saturday in the FA Cup.
What can we take out of this game?
Another heavy defeat and players that look completely devoid of any confidence whatsoever whenever we concede – making Tuesday’s game against second-bottom Doncaster almost must-win this early in the season.
We need to stick with a formation that suits the players in the squad rather than keep chopping and changing each game.
