Crewe Alex defender Scott McManus has gone awol during his loan spell at Curzon Ashton with the Manchester club unable to contact him.

The former Man Utd youngster signed in summer 2008 under Steve Holland before playing 6 games under Gudjon Thordarson. Personal problems earlier this year led to his exclusion from pre-season games before he was sent on loan to his former club Curzon Ashton.

According to The Sentinel, after just a couple of games at Curzon the 20 year old has failed to show and all attempts to contact him have failed. Curzon’s manager Gary Lowe told The Sentinel that some players just don’t have what it takes mentally to be a professional footballer.

‘We can’t locate him. His numbers have changed and we haven’t been able to contact him. We don’t know where he is.

‘He was a good prospect, but then if you’ve not got what it takes mentally then it can be too much for you. For whatever reasons that seems to have been the case with him.’

McManus has since been removed from the squad list on the official Crewe Alexandra website with little indication he is still on the books at the club.
