Robertson In, O. Finney Out On Transfer Deadline Day

|

Crewe Alexandra have confirmed that midfielder Oli Finney has left the club to join fellow League 2 club Hartlepool United on a permanent deal while the club have announced that defender Sean Robertson has joined the club on loan from League 1 side Forest Green Rovers for the rest of the season.

Finney, 25, has played his whole career with the Alex to date (after loan spells at Nantwich Town and Halesowen Town during 2016 and 2017) after coming through our youth set-up but had only played 3 times since the start of November.

Robertson, 21, came through the academy set-up at Crystal Palace before joining Forest Green last summer and has made 10 appearances between the clubs (2 in the EFL Trophy for Palace and 8 for the League 1 club). He plays as a full-back or as a winger.

What will these deals mean?

We’ll start with Finney – he was a player that looked a decent prospect during our rise and subsequent promotion from League 2 a few seasons back as a player who would play as a more attacking midfielder in a 4-3-3 but his form dipped as players moved on from the Alex and joined teams higher up the football pyramid, not helped by a leg break during the 20/21 season.

Robertson isn’t someone that I’m familiar with but having a player to be able to compete with Kelvin Mellor is going to be beneficial with a higher number of games over the forthcoming weeks.
