Michael O’Connor held no punches when asked about his current situation at the Alex today.
The Irish midfielder left for Lincoln on loan yesterday after a series of incidents between him and boss Gudjon Thordarson.
Whilst Gudjon dismissed it as ‘disciplinary issues’ rumours around the internet claimed incidents from O’Connor putting mud in sandwiches to a punch up between him and Marlon Broomes are to blame.
Occy though insists they are just rumours and there has only been one problem with him: Gudjon’s arrival.
I’m not sure what to make of Occy’s comments. There are always two sides to every story and obviously there will be no love lost between Gudjon & Michael, no matter what’s gone on. Whether Gudjon really has simply singled O’Connor out I doubt we’ll ever know.
Here are his comments after he spoke to the Lincolnshire Echo:
“[Gudjon] had a fall out with me, rumours are going about but they’re not true. All these stories, they’re all lies. It’s just that Gudjon Thordarson doesn’t like me.
“I’ve been at Crewe nine years and I’ve had Dario Gradi, Steve Holland and Neil Baker and I’ve never been in trouble once before. As soon as he (Gudjon) comes in he picks on me. He actually told me he was going to make an example of me just so the rest of the lads wouldn’t mess about with him. I was a high profile player at Crewe and he wanted to make an example of me.
“I’ve got another year left and I want to play for Crewe but I don’t want to play for that manager because he doesn’t want me. I don’t want to play for him, simple as that.
“There were a few clubs interested in me but not as interested as Lincoln were, as soon as Peter Jackson rang me up and said they were keen on me I came down here.”
Meanwhile O’Connor played 30 minutes for Lincoln in a 5-1 defeat at local rivals Grimsby, although it looks as if Occy impressed the Lincoln faithful.

Not nice to see this sort of thing going on at one of my favourite clubs.
How sad that it should come to this, Occy is undoubtedly talented with his feet, a little less so with his head I think. I’d like to see him back at the Alex – his no nonsense approach is just what we need in the middle of the park, but not at any cost, only if he’s willing to get down from his self imposed pedestal and work with the new manager and rest of the team. His career can now take one of two paths and sadly the lower road now looks the more likely, but its not too late. Come on Occy take a deep breath and do the right thing before its too late.
