Notts County are unbelievably going to appeal Saturday’s red card for Luke Rodgers.

The former Alex striker was dismissed in the final minutes of the game along with midfielder Ashley Westwood after a scrap.

It all began after a late lunge by Rodgers saw him fight to claim possession of the ball from Westwood whilst on his backside. Enduring a frustrating afternoon, Rodgers resorted to dragging Westwood back by his shorts as he got away. A scrap followed with flying limbs from both parties.

Whilst Westwood was immediately sent off, Rodgers was initially given a yellow card till the referee spoke to his fourth official. Whatever the fourth official said convinced referee Darren Sheldrake to then issue a straight red to Rodgers.

Whilst Dario & Westwood have both accepted a three match suspension for the young midfielder, Notts boss Steve Cotterill believes his player has been hard done to.

The Magpies have lodged an appeal with the FA in the hope of getting the red card rescinded with a decision expected tomorrow (Tuesday).

Speaking to thisisnottscounty.co.uk the former Stoke manager whinged:

‘If he was guilty I definitely would not stick up for him.

‘The report said he shucked a forearm into someone’s face and kicked someone.

‘It’s almost like defamation of character because he didn’t do that.’

‘Justice should be done and he should get a yellow card for getting involved in a skirmish.’

So a late lunge, an agressive ‘attack’ and overall violent conduct is deserving of a yellow?

On your bike Cotterill. Rodgers’ character can hardly be defamed much more, look at his record.
